Developing a methodology to determine sustainability of recycling derived fertiliser products

Paper

This report introduces a new method for comparing recycled fertilisers with conventional synthetic fertilisers. The method, called SA-4F, assesses their sustainability using 15 environmental, economic, and social criteria. It was developed as part of the ReNu2Cycle project to support more reliable and transparent decision-making. The assessment responds to challenges such as Europe’s dependence on fertiliser imports, supply disruptions, and the environmental impacts of synthetic fertilisers. Its aim is to promote locally produced, recycled fertilisers and support a more circular and sustainable agricultural system in North-West Europe.
