Managing digestate and developing a viable market is a major challenge for the biogas industry, as large volumes could limit its growth if not effectively handled. This study, based on interviews with diverse stakeholders, highlights that targeting regions with nutrient demand or non-agricultural markets shows potential. Upgraded digestate products with higher nutrient content and lower water content are more marketable, appealing to farmers, horticulturists, fertilizer manufacturers, and private customers. Marketing strategies are still underdeveloped, with consumer perceptions of digestate requiring careful management and education on its safety and benefits. Overall, significant opportunities exist to expand digestate markets with informed and strategic approaches.
